Inside a pod

Every pod has its own bathroom with a shower, a flat-screen TV, a fridge, a microwave and a tea and coffee maker. Linen and towels are provided. There is heating, and one of the rooms is kept allergy-free.

The seabird cliffs on your doorstep

South Stack is an RSPB reserve and it holds up to nine thousand seabirds in the season. Guillemots and razorbills pack the ledges, and there are puffins too, though far fewer. May to July is when the cliffs are busiest. Peregrines hunt along the same stretch.

Ellin’s Tower and the steps

The little white tower on the clifftop is Ellin’s Tower, built in 1867 as a summer retreat and now the RSPB’s watching station. Inside there are telescopes and a live camera trained on the cliff face, so you can see the birds close up in bad weather. The steps down to the lighthouse start from the top car park.

Where it is

The lane outside runs down to the sea, and South Stack is close by on the cliffs. Trearddur Bay beach is about six kilometres. There is an outdoor fireplace, a garden and a terrace, free private parking, and someone on the desk around the clock.

Holyhead Mountain behind you

Holyhead Mountain rises behind the pods and it is the highest ground on Anglesey at around 220 metres. It is a short climb rather than a serious one, and on a clear day you can see Ireland from the top. The paths up start close by, so you can walk it before breakfast and be back for it.

When the weather turns

This is an exposed corner of the island and the wind comes straight off the Irish Sea. Trearddur Bay, six kilometres round the coast, is more sheltered and has a wide sandy beach with shops and cafes behind it. Holyhead town is a few minutes the other way for a supermarket or somewhere indoors.
