Pen y Bont Caravan & Camping Site

On the shore of the Inland Sea

Pen y Bont Caravan & Camping Site is a working farm at Valley on Anglesey, and it runs down to the Inland Sea. The view goes out across the channel to Holyhead Mountain. The Anglesey Coastal Path runs off the site, so you can walk in either direction without moving the car.

What you can do from the gate

People windsurf, kayak and paddleboard on the channel here, and there is fishing and crabbing from the shore. Swans and geese use the stretch beside the site and there are wildflowers along the margins. The hosts speak Welsh.

The facilities

The toilet and shower block is new, and there is a separate disabled toilet and shower room. Pitches have 10-amp electric hook-ups. There is a covered dishwashing area, chemical toilet and grey waste points, a recycling point, and a laundry room and fridge at extra cost.

The walk to do first

Follow the coast from Four Mile Bridge round to Rhoscolyn. It is about ten miles there and back and takes most people three and a half hours, or you can turn round whenever you like. Rhoscolyn’s church is dedicated to Saint Gwenfaen, who is said to have settled there in 630.

Where to eat

The White Eagle at Rhoscolyn is the one people drive to, with a terrace above Borth Wen and dogs allowed inside. Valley itself has a shop and a filling station for the everyday things. Holyhead is a few minutes up the road if you need a supermarket or the ferry terminal.

Dogs and house rules

One dog comes free with a pitch and any others are £1 each. They go on a lead and get cleared up after, and there is a dog bin on site. There are no campfires and no generators. Disposable barbecues are fine raised off the grass on bricks, which are sold at the farm.

Good to know

What does a pitch cost? A caravan or motorhome pitch is £36 a night in April, May and September. It is £38 in June, July, August and bank holiday weeks. A grass tent pitch without electricity, for two adults and one car, is £30 or £33. A walker on foot with a small tent pays £12 or £15.

What is included? Two adults, children aged three and under, a 10-amp hook-up, an awning, one car, one dog and hot showers.

What time can I arrive? Between 1pm and 7pm, later by arrangement only. You need to be away by 11.30am.

Is there a minimum stay? Three nights over bank holidays.

Can I have a campfire? No, and no generators either. Disposable barbecues are allowed if raised off the grass on bricks, sold on site.

Is it open in winter? No. The site runs from Easter to the end of September.
