A hilltop lodge with far-reaching views above Aberdyfi

Top of the World Lodge lives up to its name — a single-storey lodge perched high on the Bwlchgwyn chalet park above the seaside village of Aberdyfi (Aberdovey), with far-reaching views across the countryside and out over Cardigan Bay. Sleeping six and welcoming up to two dogs, it is a wonderful self-catering base for a family or group wanting coast, mountains and a truly memorable outlook, in the southern reaches of Eryri (Snowdonia).

Comfortable, single-level living

The lodge has three bedrooms — a double, a twin and a bunk room — and a shower room with a walk-in shower, sleeping up to six. Being all on one level, the living space is easy and open, with a smart TV and an electric log-effect fire for a cosy feel on cooler evenings. The kitchen is well equipped with an electric oven and hob, microwave and fridge, and there is an iron, hairdryer and the practical bits and pieces you need for a self-catering stay.

Those views, and the outdoor space

The elevated position is the star of the show, with sweeping views from the enclosed veranda — a lovely spot to sit out with a drink and watch the light change over the bay and hills. There is ample parking in the shared car park, and WiFi is provided. Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome, so the whole family can come along. It is worth knowing the lodge is reached by some exterior steps and sloped access, so it is not suitable for guests with limited mobility, and there is normally a minimum three-night stay.

Aberdyfi and the Dyfi estuary

Aberdyfi is one of the prettiest seaside villages on the Welsh coast, set where the River Dyfi meets the sea, with four miles of golden sand and a colourful harbourfront of shops and eateries. The village is framed by the mountains of southern Snowdonia, making it a superb spot for combining beach days with hill walks. The championship Aberdovey golf links, the narrow-gauge Talyllyn Railway at nearby Tywyn, and the great mountain of Cadair Idris are all within easy reach.
