Snowdon Race 2026

The Snowdon Race takes place on Saturday 18 July 2026 — an annual mountain running event that has been testing athletes since 1976. Competitors run from Llanberis to the summit of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) and back, covering 10 miles with 3,200 feet of ascent. The current records stand at 1 hour 2 minutes for men and 1 hour 12 minutes for women, set on terrain that ranges from lakeside paths to rocky ridge scrambling.

Despite the demanding nature of the course, the Snowdon Race has a famously inclusive spirit. Hundreds of runners of all abilities take part each year, from elite fell runners to those for whom reaching the summit and getting back down in one piece is the goal. The race starts and finishes in Llanberis, and the summit of Snowdon — at 1,085 metres the highest point in Wales and England — gives all finishers something to remember.

The event is organised by Eryri Harriers athletic club and is held under fell running rules. Numbers are limited and entry fills quickly; registration typically opens in early spring. Spectators are welcome at the start and finish in Llanberis, and can often see runners on the upper sections of the mountain from the station at the top of the Snowdon Mountain Railway.

Llanberis sits on the shores of Llyn Padarn at the foot of Snowdon, with a good range of accommodation including guesthouses, B&Bs and holiday cottages. The village is the starting point for several Snowdon walking routes and is well served by public transport from Caernarfon and Bangor.
