A group of converted farm cottages at Bodedern, west Anglesey

Ty Cristion is a collection of four self-catering holiday cottages at Bodedern, one of the oldest villages in west Anglesey. Created from carefully converted 17th-century farm outbuildings and run by Derek and Helen Thomas, the cottages sleep up to twelve guests in total and can be taken individually for a couple or family, or together for a larger group celebration or multi-family holiday. With shared grounds, plenty of parking and a genuinely rural setting, it is a flexible and welcoming base for exploring the west of the island.

The cottages

The four cottages share roughly seven acres of gardens and grounds, so there is space to relax outdoors whether you are travelling as one family or several. Each cottage has its own private patio with furniture and a barbecue, and the conversion from old farm buildings gives them real character. Because they can be booked singly or as a group, Ty Cristion works equally well for a quiet two-some break and for a get-together of family and friends under one roof.

Space, parking and facilities

There is ample parking — enough for cars, and even boats and jet-skis, which says a lot about the kind of active, outdoorsy stays the owners cater for. Secure storage is available for bikes and fishing gear, and the grounds include outdoor recreation for all ages, with a giant draughts board, swing ball and a children’s play area. It all adds up to a setting where children can roam and adults can unwind, just minutes from the coast and the mountains alike.

Bodedern and west Anglesey

Bodedern sits just off the old B5109 coaching road in the west of Anglesey, around two miles from junction 4 of the A55 and only six miles from the ferry port of Holyhead — handy for sailings to Ireland. It is well placed for the dramatic cliffs, lighthouse and seabird colonies of South Stack and Holyhead Mountain, the surf and sands of Rhosneigr, and the Anglesey Coastal Path, while the mountains of Eryri (Snowdonia) are around eighteen miles away for a day in the hills. Days out from Bodedern

The west of Anglesey is wonderful walking and beach country. Holyhead Mountain and the RSPB cliffs at South Stack, with their lighthouse and summer seabird colonies, are a short drive, as are the surf beaches and dunes around Rhosneigr and the broad sands at Trearddur Bay. Closer still, the Anglesey Coastal Path threads the whole shoreline for shorter strolls, and Llyn Alaw offers gentle lakeside walks and birdwatching. The novelty of the cottages’ own play area, the space for boats and bikes, and the easy reach of both coasts make this a particularly good base for active families and groups who want different things from each day.

Frequently asked again

Is it good for a group celebration? Yes — taking all four cottages together suits a family get-together or special occasion, with shared grounds for everyone to gather in.

Can we launch a boat? The owners cater for guests bringing boats and jet-skis, with parking and storage to match — handy for the nearby coast.
