Carmarthen is the oldest town in Wales. It sits on the banks of the River Tywi. You can see the old walls of a Roman fort in this place. Long ago, people said the great wizard Merlin was born here. The narrow streets are full of local life and a busy market. You can walk the paths by the river to see the green hills. In the centre, the grey stone walls of a castle look over the town. The air is fresh and the history is deep. Many people speak the Welsh language with a proud heart. It is a quiet spot with a very warm feel. Life here is slow and tied to the land. It is a fine place to visit.
