A Traditional Seafront Cottage near Beaumaris, Anglesey

Blue Sails enjoys one of the most enviable positions on Anglesey — a traditional white-washed Welsh cottage sitting right on the sea shore at Llanfaes, just outside the historic town of Beaumaris. At high tide the water comes up almost to the garden wall, and the views across the Menai Strait to the mountains of Eryri (Snowdonia) are simply magical. With the beach quite literally on the doorstep, a snug woodburner for cooler evenings and space for six, it is a wonderful spot for a family seaside break, a gathering of friends, or a peaceful escape by the water.

The Cottage

Full of character, Blue Sails has been beautifully kept while keeping its traditional cottage charm — thick white-painted walls, exposed beams and a lovely vaulted sitting room with a woodburning stove and deep leather sofas. The sitting room opens through patio doors straight onto the garden and the shore, so you can watch the tide come and go with a cup of tea in hand. There is a well-equipped kitchen with a dishwasher (and a sea view over the sink), a characterful beamed dining area seating six, and three comfortable bedrooms — a double, a twin and a further bedroom — served by a smart bathroom with a shower over the bath. Well-behaved dogs are welcome, and there is Wi-Fi, a washing machine and parking on site.

Beaumaris and the Menai Strait

Blue Sails sits just along the shore from Beaumaris, one of the most attractive towns in Wales. Its mighty moated castle, begun by Edward I, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the elegant Georgian streets are lined with independent shops, galleries, cafes and good inns. Stroll the Victorian pier, take a boat trip out to Puffin Island to see the seabirds and seals, or visit the fascinating old Courthouse and Gaol. The Menai Strait laps right outside the cottage, and the whole setting looks across the water to the peaks of Snowdonia — a view that changes with every tide and every hour of the day.

Exploring Anglesey

The wider island is a joy to explore. Just beyond Beaumaris, Penmon Point has its little lighthouse, dovecote and views to Puffin Island, while the Anglesey Coastal Path traces mile after mile of quiet coves, cliffs and sandy bays. Family favourites such as Benllech and Red Wharf Bay are a short drive away, along with the pretty village of Moelfre and the beaches of the east coast. Back on the mainland, the bridges over the Menai Strait put Bangor, Caernarfon and the mountains and adventures of Snowdonia all within easy reach.
