All accommodation in Oak Cottage is at first-floor level, offering incredible views out across the rolling green hills surrounding the farm. An open plan lounge and dining area offer plenty of room to unwind after a day out exploring, and there is a log burner and a TV with DVD player, for guests to enjoy. Free WiFi is available throughout the cottage.
There are three bedrooms in Oak Cottage, one double room with an antique pine double bed, one room with twin beds and a third room with a small double bed, suitable for 1 or 2 people. The bathroom is clean and contemporary, offering a bath with over-bath shower.
The light and airy kitchen is stocked with all the utensils and kitchen equipment that guests will need to enjoy their stay, and guests are welcome to make use of the patio area outside and to enjoy and explore the gardens and grounds. Ample parking is available.
One of the big attractions for staying at Steppes Farm is the on-site restaurant, The Stonemill. This Michelin-listed, 2 AA Rosette restaurant offers guests the chance to dine out in a stylish environment, just minutes from the door of their holiday cottage. With no need to think about driving back home after a meal out, The Stonemill is perfect for a celebration dinner, or a holiday treat. The restaurant prides itself on the provenance of the ingredients it uses, and all vegetables are grown on site at Steppes Farm, for the freshest possible taste. Typical starters might include pickled mackerel with samphire and duck egg gribiche, with mains including slow-cooked shoulder of local Raglan lamb, or roasted loin of venison. For dessert, diners might be tempted by rhubarb parfait, an assiette of Valrhona chocolate, or lemon posset with meringue, summer berries and lemon meringue ice cream. With The Stonemill on the doorstep, its easy to see why family groups and friends choose to stay together at Steppes Farm and to book a table at the restaurant at the same time.
Oak cottage is ideally located for exploring Monmouthshire and the border region of Wales. The historic market towns of Monmouth, Hereford and Chepstow are all close by, and they are all well worth a visit. The Monnow Bridge in Monmouth is quite a sight, and is reputedly the only medieval gated stone bridge in the country. Elsewhere in Monmouth, there are many other architectural and historical delights, such as Monmouth Castle and Shire Hall. Of course, there are castles dotted along the entire length of the border between Wales and England, with many fine examples close to Monmouth. The castles at Raglan, Skenfrith and Chepstow are all great destinations for an informative and entertaining day out, and there are many more to choose from, within easy reach of Monmouth.
The regions history goes far further back than medieval times, however, and visitors may wish to take in the standing stones, known as Harolds Stones, near Trellech, or Caerwent Roman Town, a 30-minute drive from Monmouth.
For those who prefer to get outdoors and explore the landscape, there are miles of stunning walking trails to explore in both the Wye Valley and the Forest of Dean. Outdoor activity enthusiasts can choose from all manner of different experiences, including kayaking, horse riding, and mountain biking. Visitors who prefer a more leisurely approach to the great outdoors may be tempted by the regions many excellent golf courses, such as The Rolls of Monmouth or Raglan Parc, or even a day at the races, at nearby Chepstow.
