Located just a stones throw from the historic and interesting town of Monmouth, Steppes Farm makes an incredible base for a holiday on the Welsh-English border. For centuries, this border witnessed power struggles between the two countries, and the many castles in the area bear witness to this. Chepstow Castle, Raglan Castle, Caldicot Castle and White Castle all stand imposingly on the wide-open landscape, and visits to these castles make for an informative and fascinating day out.
Foodies flock to Monmouthshire, as in recent years, it has become something of a focal point for artisan producers and growers. White Castle Vineyard sits in the rolling green countryside between Monmouth and Abergavenny, and visitors can take in the vineyard and purchase award-winning Welsh wines on site. Gourmet treats await at both Meadow Farm and Trealy Farm, where well-stocked farm shops tempt visitors and locals alike. Over at Tintern, Kingstone Brewery is open daily, offering a choice of more than fifty unique ales. Many of these foodie destinations are close to a castle or another historic site, so can be teamed up for a full and enjoyable day out.
For a romantic getaway or an outdoors adventure, Monmouthshire is hard to beat. With Wood Cottage as your base and the award-winning Stonemill Restaurant on site at Steppes Farm, having a fantastic and memorable holiday here is easy.
