Haverfordwest is a real find in the heart of Pembrokeshire. My top tip is the castle ruins. They sit on a high hill and you can walk there for free. It is a prime choice for a low cost day out. Below the stone walls, the River Cleddau flows through the town. You can walk the paths by the water to see the old stone bridge. The town has many local shops and a big food market on Fridays. To find the best views, head to the site of the old Priory. The air is fresh and the hills are very green. Life here is busy but kind. It is a true Welsh gem for a smart trip.
