Abercraf sits at the edge of the Bannau Brycheiniog, where old valley mines meet high limestone peaks. The village is very close to the National Showcaves Centre at Dan-yr-Ogof. My top tip is to walk the wooded trail to Henrhyd Falls. You can stand behind the tall curtain of water for free. It is the highest drop in South Wales. The River Tawe cuts a deep path through the valley floor. Ancient beech trees and old stone quarries line the banks. Local buildings show the rugged character of this inland spot. This village is the gateway to the Cribarth mountain. Many call this hill the Sleeping Giant. It is a fine place for a quiet break.
