Attractions in Swansea

Oystermouth Castle

Oystermouth Castle is set on a hill in Mumbles. It overlooks Swansea Bay and was the former residence of the Marcher Lords of Gower. The castle was often under attack from the Welsh people because of its occupants. Its earliest building is its keep which dates back to the early 12th century.

The National Waterfront Museum

This museum tells the story of Welsh industry and innovation. Visitors are given an opportunity to delve into the displays through interactive, cutting-edge technology. The museum is home to 100 audiovisual exhibits and large historic objects including a brick press, the world’s first steam locomotive, and one of the few existing coal wagons.

Clyne Gardens

This garden contains different collections of plants set in lovely parkland. It is internationally renowned for its Pieris, Enkianthus, and Rhododendrons. It has many interesting features and is a haven of tranquility. The present park was formed from the gardens created by Glynn Vivian who bought the castle in 1860.

The Dylan Thomas Centre

Dylan Thomas was the city’s most famous son and the centre was built in his honour. An annual event is held each year to celebrate his works and achievements. It takes 2 weeks and offers a wide range of talks and workshops. Special guests from all over the country give speeches to scholars and Dylan’s fans.

Shopping

If history and culture isn’t your thing but clothes and shoes are, try some of the excellent shopping facilities. These include the city’s retail hub Oxford Street which attracts more than 50,000 visitors per week, the under-cover Quadrant Shopping Centre, and Wales’ largest indoor market. If you prefer pretty boutiques, designer wear, and handcrafted jewellery, pay a visit to the town of Mumbles just a few miles away.

LC Waterpark

If you are holidaying with your family, the LC waterpark is a must-visit spot. The park offers something for everyone and is the perfect place for a family day out. It has a lovely network of pools, slides, and rides including the famous ‘standing boardrider.’ It is home to the first indoor surfing machine in Britain.

The Gower peninsula

Beautiful and unspoilt, the Gower Peninsula is home to many historic features. It is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean and Bristol Sea and was the first place to be designated an ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’ in the UK. Gower is home to medieval churches, prehistoric standing stones, Iron Age fortifications, and castles. These are set against a wonderful natural backdrop of beaches, valleys, hills, woodland, marshes, caves, dunes, cliff tops, and commons. Visit Gower beaches for relaxation and fun, take a stroll along the striking coastline and cliffs, and enjoy surfing the brilliant waves. Gower’s location and general features make it one of UK’s best surf spots. Since it is a peninsula, it has many breaks to choose from.

Mumbles

As you stay in Swansea hotels, don’t miss a chance to visit Mumbles. The small hamlet is set on the border of Swansea Bay on the eastern tip of the Gower coastline. Its tidal inlets mark the beginning of Gower’s southern coast. It has a long history and is known for its large variety of shops, restaurants, cafes, and galleries displaying local arts and crafts.

Swansea is one of Britain’s liveliest cities and possibly Wales’ best tourist spot. It is filled with beautiful hotels offering exceptional accommodation. Whether you are looking for a city break, a beach holiday, or a more adventurous and active break, this is the place for you. You’ll have such a great time you’ll be sad to leave. It’s no wonder the city is fast becoming one of the most popular in the UK.
