Set in the heart of Snowdonia National Park, our romantic North Wales holiday cottage is the perfect place to retreat to when you want some time alone with your loved one. It is a grade 2 listed stone cottage located in the scenic village of Maentwrog. Once a primary school, the cottage has been lovingly refurbished to provide quality self catering accommodation. This North Wales holiday cottage for two has distinctive charm and character that you'll simply love from the moment you first step in. The high, king truss vaulted ceiling and the oak flooring enhance the cottage's character and beauty. Cosy leather seats, brushed stainless steel light switches, slate coasters, and an impressive log burner give the cottage the perfect finishing touch. We have carefully chosen everything in the cottage to ensure it provides unique style and luxury to all our guests. Property has a JACUZZI bath in the bathroom.
Our romantic North Wales holiday cottage is set on the edge of River Dwyryd in Snowdonia. The picturesque village where the cottage is located was built by the powerful Oakley family who made their wealth from mining slate. The slate was mined in Blaenau Ffestiniog and sold to different parts of the world. It was transported using the narrow gauge steam railway which operated from Tan Y Bwlch to Pothmadog where it would be loaded onto awaiting ships. The mine remains a tourist attraction up to this day while the steam train which operates along the Ffestiniog railway line only carries tourists. The train ride offers an enchanting journey alongside River Dwyryd and also explores the beautiful countryside. An ancient stone located in the village, known as Maentwrog, or Twrog's stone, derives its name from an ancient giant called Twrog. History has it that the giant threw a huge boulder from a nearby hill which destroyed a pagan alter in the village. The stone stands in the church courtyard up to this day and the giant's fingerprints can be seen on the stone's surface. Maentwrog village has two pubs which serve superb welsh meals. If you are keen on walking, many beautiful trails can be accessed from our North Wales holiday cottage for two. Snowdon Mountain is filled with excellent slopes for climbing and is only 30 minutes away by car. The renowned Tryweryn River offers white water rafting and a downhill mountain biking centre is located in Blaenau. The beautiful towns of Porthmadog and Harlech are just 10 minutes away by car. Porthmadog is very popular with shoppers while Harlech is renowned for its medieval castle, sandy beaches, and world famous golf course.
