Torrent Walk Campsite sits outside Dolgellau in southern Eryri, with a bunkhouse alongside the fields. It takes tents, caravans and motorhomes, opens all year, and pitches start at £20 a night for two. The showers are hot and free and the Wi-Fi is superfast and free as well.
Three fields under Cadair Idris country
The site runs across three camping and touring fields — the main field, the lake field, and the ledges field, which suits tents better because the way in is steep. There is a mix of grass and hardstanding, so it works in a wet spell as well as a dry one.
Pitches
Hardstanding pitches are 10 metres by 8, half gravel and half grass, with 13-amp electric and water and drainage hook-ups. Prices start at £20 a night for two people. Tents, trailer tents, roof tents, caravans and motorhomes are all taken.
Facilities
A large toilet block with free hot showers, a shared fridge and freezer for guests, an outdoor washing-up area, a microwave and a kettle. There are firepits on site. The Wi-Fi is free and genuinely fast, which is not something most campsites in this valley can say.
Dogs
Dogs are welcome, up to two per pitch — and up to four on the large electric grass pitches. Say how many when you book.

Dolgellau and Cadair Idris
The Torrent Walk itself is the two-mile path along the Clywedog gorge that the site is named after, laid out in the early nineteenth century. Dolgellau is a few minutes away, a dark stone town built almost entirely of the local slate and granite. Cadair Idris rises south of it, and the Minffordd path up it is the steep and spectacular way. The Mawddach estuary runs west to Barmouth, with a level trail along the old railway the whole nine miles.
