A smartly finished self-catering cottage for four in Rossett, near Wrexham

1 The Stables is a comfortable, well-presented conversion tucked into a quiet gated courtyard in the desirable village of Rossett, midway between Wrexham and Chester. Neatly modernised throughout and finished to a high standard, it pairs easy, low-maintenance living with a light conservatory that looks onto the courtyard — a relaxing spot for morning coffee. With everything on hand for a self-catering break and a genuinely handy location for exploring both Wales and Cheshire, it makes an excellent base for a couple or a small family.

Sleeping up to four across two bedrooms, it is a good choice for a couple wanting a little extra room, or a small family looking for a peaceful village base within easy reach of two lively destinations.

Inside the cottage

The sitting room is bright and welcoming, with comfortable sofas, a Smart TV and WiFi, opening through to a conservatory that adds a second sitting and dining space filled with light. The kitchen is well equipped for cooking in, with an electric oven and gas hob, microwave, air fryer, fridge-freezer, dishwasher and washing machine — everything you need for a longer stay. A round dining table seats the whole party for meals together.

Upstairs are two bedrooms — a king-size double and a twin — served by a family bathroom with a bath and shower over, while a ground-floor cloakroom adds extra convenience. Central heating, fuel and power are all included in the rent, along with bed linen and towels, so there is very little to bring.

A village between Wrexham and Chester

Rossett is one of the prettiest villages in the north-east, set among the water meadows of the River Alyn, with a much-photographed old watermill, a couple of welcoming pubs and a village shop within a short stroll — the nearest is barely a hundred yards from the door. Its great advantage is its position: the town of Wrexham lies around six miles to the south, and the historic city of Chester roughly the same distance to the north, so you can plan very different days out without a long drive.

In Wrexham you will find shops, the Tŷ Pawb market and the football ground whose recent rise has made headlines around the world, with the National Trust’s Erddig hall and gardens close by. Chester offers its Roman walls, the two-tiered Rows shops, the racecourse and Chester Zoo. Closer to home, walkers can follow the Alyn and Dee valleys or head for the Clwydian Range, while families will find Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet within easy reach. It is an ideal spot for combining Welsh countryside with a city day out. There are more ideas on our Wrexham accommodation pages.

Good to know

The cottage sits in a private, gated courtyard, which makes it feel secure and peaceful, with parking for two cars including a garage. As a first-floor-bedroom conversion it involves stairs to the bedrooms, though the ground floor has a cloakroom. It is a smoke-free and vape-free property, and unfortunately pets cannot be accommodated here.
