The Library is a characterful, detached holiday cottage tucked away on the historic Glanusk Estate, just outside the lovely market town of Crickhowell in the heart of the Brecon Beacons (Bannau Brycheiniog). Sleeping up to four across two bedrooms and welcoming up to three dogs, it sits in its own enclosed garden looking out over Penmyarth Park, with the estate’s woodlands, parkland and stretch of the River Usk right on the doorstep. It is a wonderful base for a family, a couple or a small group wanting peace, space and proper Welsh countryside.

Down seven steps from the entrance is the spacious lounge-diner, a relaxing room with comfortable seating, a warming woodburner and a Smart TV, where French doors open out onto the garden. The well-equipped kitchen has an electric oven and hob, a microwave, a fridge/freezer, a dishwasher, a washing machine and a tumble dryer, while a separate dining area, set for six, is a lovely spot to gather around the table. Oil central heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi are all included.

Two Bedrooms

There are two comfortable bedrooms sleeping up to four: one with a zip-and-link super-king bed (which can be made up as twins on request) and one with zip-and-link twin beds, so the layout flexes to suit couples, friends or a family. The bathroom has a bath with a shower over, a heated towel rail and a WC.

The cottage has its own enclosed lawned garden with a patio and garden furniture, looking out over Penmyarth Park — a peaceful place for al fresco dining as the light fades over the hills. Beyond the garden, guests can wander the wider Glanusk Estate, with its lush grounds, woodlands and scenic walking trails, and there is fishing nearby on the River Usk. There is parking for two cars and the cottage is no-smoking throughout. Please note there is an unfenced river within the estate grounds, so younger children will need supervising.

Rising right behind the town is Table Mountain (Crug Hywel), while the distinctive cone of the Sugar Loaf is close by — both rewarding walks with far-reaching views.
