The Harp at Letterston

The Harp is a fifteenth-century inn on the main road through Letterston, fifteen minutes north of Haverfordwest. There are six rooms, a conservatory restaurant cooking Welsh produce, and — unusually for a building this old — step-free access right through the pub and restaurant.

A fifteenth-century inn with modern rooms

The building is old and the rooms are not: they were refitted and papered with Laura Ashley prints, so you get the beams downstairs and a modern room upstairs. Letterston sits on the A40 between Haverfordwest and Fishguard, which puts both coasts of north Pembrokeshire within twenty minutes.

Fishguard is fifteen minutes north, where the ferry leaves for Ireland and the lower town stood in for Under Milk Wood in the 1972 film. St Davids, the smallest city in Britain, is half an hour west, and the coast path runs the whole way round. Newport Sands and the Preseli hills — where the Stonehenge bluestones were quarried — are twenty-five minutes north-east.
