A clifftop above St Mary’s Well Bay

The Bay Caravan Park is a family-owned park set in 27 acres on the clifftop at St Mary’s Well Bay, near Penarth. It has its own woodland and its own private beach. The whole site looks out across the Bristol Channel to the Somerset coast, with Flat Holm and Steep Holm in between.

The chalets, and what they cost

Four chalets are let to visitors. Flat Holm and Steep Holm have one bedroom; Horizon and Sunrise have two. Bookings run Saturday to Saturday. For 2026 a one-bedroom week is £450 in February and March, £500 through spring and early summer, £550 from mid-July to early September and £510 in late September. The two-bedroom chalets run £500, £570, £600 and £560 across the same periods.

On the park

There is an indoor swimming pool, a children’s play area, a clubhouse, a shop, a laundry and a dog exercise area. The pool being indoors matters here — it works in February as well as August.

The ground it stands on

The woodland and beach here were once part of the Marquess of Bute’s Welsh estates. That is the family whose coal money built Cardiff Docks and rebuilt Cardiff Castle. Lavernock Point, just along the cliff, is where Guglielmo Marconi sent the first radio signal across open sea in May 1897, to Flat Holm three miles out. A stone in the churchyard marks it.

Is there a pool? Yes, and it is indoors, so the weather does not decide. There is also a clubhouse, a shop, a laundry and a play area.

Is there a beach? Yes, the park has its own private beach below the cliff.
