Zip World Fforest is 8km away and Gwydir Castle is a short drive through Betws-y-Coed. Yr Wyddfa is 26km, the Snowdon Mountain Railway at Llanberis 32km, and Bodnant Garden is over towards the Conwy valley. Betws-y-Coed itself has the shops, the cafés and the station on the Conwy Valley line.

The bridge at the bottom of the hill

Rhydlanfair sits where the old road crosses the Conwy, and Pont Rhydlanfair has stood there since 1780. It is a single steep arch of grey rubble stone spanning about 27 metres, and it carried travellers long before the A5 was pushed through this valley. The river below it is a known run for kayakers coming down from Ysbyty Ifan.

Two waterfalls within a few miles

Conwy Falls is the nearer, where the river drops through a wooded gorge. The Fairy Glen is a narrow rocky cleft on the same stretch, and you walk into it from the road. Swallow Falls, on the Llugwy west of Betws-y-Coed, is the one most people have heard of and costs a couple of pounds to see. All three are about fifteen minutes from the door.
