A hut for two near Benllech

Inside the hut

There is one bedroom with a double bed and one bathroom. The kitchen is fully fitted, with a butler sink under the window and cupboards along one side. A wood burner heats the hut, and there is a TV. It is lined in painted timber from end to end.

The garden

The hut stands on a deck in a large garden with steps down to the grass. There is a barbecue area and room to sit out. It is detached and set on its own, with a pond and planting round about.

Eating without driving far

The Ship Inn at Red Wharf Bay does food seven days a week and stands right on the sand at the head of the bay. In Benllech the Beachcomber Bar and Grill is on the main road near the beach, and the Mermaid Fish Bar fries to order. Round at Moelfre the Kinmel Arms sits at the bottom of the village above a shingle beach.

The walk most people miss

The Anglesey Coastal Path runs north from Benllech to Moelfre, about four miles, past low cliffs and the lifeboat station. Lligwy is the beach to head for if Benllech is busy — it is roughly a mile north and far quieter. You can walk it and get the bus back rather than doubling the distance.

Getting about

Benllech beach is 2.4 kilometres away and Red Wharf Bay about 4.3. Beaumaris Castle is roughly fifteen kilometres. Storws Wen Golf Club is an eighteen-minute walk. There is private parking on site and an electric vehicle charging point, which is still rare on this part of the island.

What a hut is like to stay in

A shepherd’s hut is one room, so everything is within reach of the bed. That suits two people who want somewhere quiet rather than somewhere big. The wood burner does the heating, and it warms the whole hut quickly because there is not much of it. Everything you cook on is proper kitchen kit rather than camping gear.

Shopping and the practical stuff

Benllech has the nearest shops, a few minutes down the road, and that is where to go for milk and a newspaper. Moelfre has a village shop as well. For a full supermarket shop you want Menai Bridge or Llangefni, both about twenty minutes away by car.
