A Detached Sea-View Cottage at Llanaber, near Barmouth
Rhosmair sits on the hillside at Llanaber, just above the long golden beach on the northern edge of Barmouth (Abermaw), with wide views out over Cardigan Bay. It is a proper detached cottage — roomy, welcoming and well suited to a big family or a group of friends — sleeping eight across four bedrooms. From the sunny flagstone patio and the sitting-room bay window you look straight out to sea and along the sands, while behind you rise the mountains of southern Eryri (Snowdonia). With the beach a short stroll away, two dogs welcome and Barmouth’s shops and seafront within easy reach, it makes a relaxed and roomy base for a Welsh coast holiday.
The Cottage
Rhosmair is full of homely character. The sitting room has a comfortable three-piece suite, a warming stove and a bay window framing the sea view; there is a second sitting area for when a larger group wants a little more space. A separate dining room seats everyone around one table, and the well-fitted kitchen has an electric oven and hob, dishwasher, microwave and all the everyday bits and pieces. Upstairs are four bedrooms and two bathrooms, so a full household of eight can spread out comfortably. A cot and highchair are available for little ones, there is a washing machine for longer stays, and Wi-Fi keeps everyone connected.
The Setting
Outside, the enclosed garden and the paved patio are the heart of the cottage on a fine day — a sheltered, sunny spot to sit with a drink and watch the tide roll in and out across the bay. The beach at Llanaber is only a short walk down the hill, a broad expanse of firm sand backed by dunes that runs all the way into Barmouth. A pub serving food is within about a mile, and the town centre — with its harbour, shops, cafes and chip shops — is a few minutes away by car or a pleasant walk along the front.

Barmouth and the Mawddach
Barmouth is one of the best-loved resorts on the Cardigan Bay coast, sitting where the Mawddach estuary meets the sea beneath the mountains. Its miles of sandy beach are the main draw, but there is far more to enjoy: a busy little harbour and quay, the RNLI museum, a good sprinkling of shops and eateries, and the famous Barmouth Bridge striding across the estuary mouth. Walk or cycle across the bridge onto the Mawddach Trail, a flat and scenic route that follows the old railway line up the estuary towards Dolgellau — one of the loveliest easy walks in Wales. For a bird’s-eye view, the short Panorama Walk above the town takes in the whole sweep of the estuary and hills.
Exploring the Snowdonia Coast
Rhosmair makes a fine touring base for this corner of southern Snowdonia. The mighty bulk of Cadair Idris rises just inland, with paths for walkers of all abilities, while the little Fairbourne steam railway sits just across the estuary. Head north along the coast to the medieval castle and dunes at Harlech, or south to Fairbourne and Tywyn with its Talyllyn narrow-gauge railway. The beaches of Llanaber, Barmouth, Fairbourne and Dyffryn Ardudwy give miles of sand to choose from, and the mountains, waterfalls and lakes of Eryri are all within a comfortable drive.
