A Romantic Lodge for Two in the Wye Valley near Monmouth

Red Lodge is a charming detached timber lodge set in beautiful, leafy grounds at The Narth, near Monmouth, in the heart of the Wye Valley. Perfect for a couple, this open-plan, single-storey lodge offers a peaceful, away-from-it-all retreat with a private decking area, glorious gardens to enjoy and country walks straight from the door — including a path down to the River Wye. Dog-friendly and full of character, it has earned a Customers’ Choice award for its consistently excellent guest reviews.

Open-Plan, Single-Storey Living

Reached by a few steps to the entrance, the lodge is arranged all on one level beneath a lovely pine-clad vaulted ceiling, giving it a bright, welcoming feel. The open-plan studio brings together a comfortable seating and sleeping area, a small dining table and a well-equipped kitchen area with a hob, microwave, fridge, toaster and kettle. French doors open straight onto a private timber decking area, the perfect spot for morning coffee or an evening glass of something while you take in the peaceful garden views. Electricity, bed linen and towels are all included.

Comfortable Sleeping for Two

The sleeping area has a comfortable day bed arranged as twin singles, ideal for a couple or two friends, tucked beneath the eaves with leafy views through the windows. The shower room has a shower cubicle, basin and toilet. As a single-storey lodge, everything is easy to get around once you are inside.

Gardens, Summerhouse and Setting

Outside is where Red Lodge really comes into its own. It sits in around three-quarters of an acre of natural, unspoilt grounds, with a large lawned garden, a patio, garden furniture, a summerhouse and a barbecue (shared with the one neighbouring lodge and the owner’s home). The summerhouse is a lovely place to sit with a book and watch the sun go down. There is private parking for one car around 110 yards away, and the lodge is no-smoking throughout. Up to two dogs stay free, and a welcome pack is provided on arrival.

The Narth, Monmouth and the Wye Valley

Red Lodge is beautifully placed for the Wye Valley and the Welsh Marches. From the grounds you can walk down towards the River Wye and on through the valley to the famous viewpoint at Symonds Yat. The handsome market town of Monmouth, with its castle, the Monmouth Regimental Museum, the historic Shire Hall and plenty of cafés and restaurants, is a short drive away. This is a genuinely peaceful, rural spot, so it is worth knowing that the nearest shop, pub and restaurant are around six miles away — bring a few supplies and settle in.

Exploring Further Afield

There is plenty more to discover. The River Wye is a favourite for canoeing, and the Offa’s Dyke Path and Wye Valley Walk pass close by for keen walkers.
