Half a mile from Benllech
Plas Uchaf Caravan & Camping Park is at Tyn y Gongl, half a mile up the road from Benllech on the east coast of Anglesey. The sandy beach at Benllech is about a mile away. The park takes tents, touring caravans and motorhomes from March through to the end of October.
The pitches
There are eighty touring pitches and every one has electricity and a water supply. You can take grass or hardstanding. The grass is closely mown and parking is round the perimeter, so cars sit at the edge rather than between the vans. Tents are welcome up to six metres by three.
What is on the park
The amenity block has toilets, hot showers and a laundry room. Children get a proper play area with a climbing frame, swings and a football goal, and there is a lot of open grass besides it. Picnic benches sit under the trees along the main path.
Eating without driving far
The Ship Inn at Red Wharf Bay does food seven days a week and stands right on the sand at the head of the bay. In Benllech the Beachcomber Bar and Grill is on the main road near the beach, and the Mermaid Fish Bar fries to order. Round at Moelfre the Kinmel Arms sits at the bottom of the village above a shingle beach.
The walk most people miss
The Anglesey Coastal Path runs north from Benllech to Moelfre, about four miles, past low cliffs and the lifeboat station. Lligwy is the beach to head for if Benllech is busy — it is roughly a mile north and far quieter. You can walk it and get the bus back rather than doubling the distance.
Why base yourself here
The east coast is the sheltered side of Anglesey, which matters when the wind gets up off the Irish Sea. Benllech village is half a mile down the road, so you can walk to a shop, a chip shop and a pub without moving the car. Red Wharf Bay is the next bay south.

Good to know
What does a pitch cost? £33 a night in low season, which runs 1 March to 21 May and again from 31 August to 31 October. It is £41 a night from 22 May to 30 August. Extra people aged three and over are £5 each, an awning is £2 and an extra car is £5.
Do the pitches have electric hook-up? Yes. All eighty touring pitches have electricity and a water supply laid on.
Can I bring a dog? Yes, up to two, at £2 each per night.
How far is the beach? Benllech’s sandy beach is about a mile from the park, and the village is half a mile.
Where is the nearest pub doing food? The Beachcomber in Benllech is closest. The Ship Inn at Red Wharf Bay is the one worth the short drive.
What time can I arrive? Check-in is from midday and you need to be away by 11am.
Is it open in winter? No. The park runs from March to the end of October.
