A footpath down to the sands

Pendine Bay Leisure Park is a new five-star park in the countryside above Pendine, with a footpath running from the park straight down to the beach. Pendine Sands is seven miles of hard flat sand, and the park is four tenths of a mile from it.

The caravans

The holiday homes come with two or three bedrooms, sleeping four or six. They are named rather than numbered — Acorn, Birch, Cedar and Cedar Outlook — and both Birch models take up to two pets. Everything is self-catering and fully equipped, and bedding and towels are provided, so you arrive with a bag and nothing else.

Seasonal touring

There is also a seasonal touring field with just 18 pitches. The park chose to keep the number low where most would fit forty or more, so the pitches have room around them. A seasonal pitch means leaving the van on site and turning up when you like, from 1 March to 30 November.

Before you walk on Pendine Sands

The beach is a Ministry of Defence firing range as well as a beach, worked by QinetiQ. Red flags mean stay off, and the danger area takes in the foreshore even at low tide. Check the flags and the notices at the entrance before you go on. When the range is quiet the sand runs for miles, which is exactly why the land speed records were set here.

Good to know

Do I need to bring bedding? No. Bedding and towels are provided in all the caravans.

Can I bring a dog? Yes, in the pet-friendly caravans, up to two.

How far is the beach? Four tenths of a mile, on a footpath from the park.

Can I drive on Pendine Sands? No. Cars were banned outright in 2004 and there is now a marked parking area only. The beach is also an MOD firing range, so check the red flags before walking on it.

When is the park open? 1 March to 30 November. The office is open 9am to 5pm.
