A five-star bed and breakfast at Dinas, on the quiet north coast of the Llŷn

Pen Llŷn Accommodation is a five-star (Visit Wales) bed and breakfast in the peaceful village of Dinas, near Tudweiliog, on the unspoilt north coast of the Llŷn Peninsula in North Wales. Run with great care by owners Brian and Jane, it offers two large, beautifully finished en-suite rooms with coastal and mountain views, a generous home-cooked breakfast and a genuinely warm Welsh welcome. Tucked away in quiet countryside yet only a few minutes from some of the loveliest beaches in Wales, it makes a wonderfully relaxing and well-placed base for exploring the whole peninsula.

The bed and breakfast

There are two large first-floor bedrooms, both en-suite and finished to a high standard. The double room has a large en-suite with a bath (with lovely views) and a separate walk-in shower, while the twin has its own en-suite shower room. Both have pocket-sprung and memory-foam mattresses dressed with crisp Egyptian cotton linen, digital TVs, hospitality trays with tea and coffee, and hairdryers — and both enjoy coastal and mountain views. Breakfast is a real highlight: varied and flexible, freshly cooked to order, and happily adapted for special diets (vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free and lighter options are all no trouble). On fine mornings you can take it out onto the patio. There’s free WiFi throughout, EV charging for electric cars, and — a lovely touch for walkers — Brian and Jane offer a shuttle service to and from points on the Llŷn Coast Path, plus packed lunches on request.

The Llŷn on your doorstep

Dinas sits on the quieter northern side of the Llŷn Peninsula, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty fringed with beaches, coves and headlands. The sandy beach at Porth Towyn near Tudweiliog is just a few minutes away, while the famous Whistling Sands (Porth Oer) and the seaside village of Nefyn are around four miles off. The dramatic tip of the peninsula at Aberdaron — looking across to Bardsey Island — and the sailing village of Abersoch are both about six miles away, and the market town of Pwllheli, with its shops, harbour and railway station, is roughly six miles east.

This is wonderful walking country: the Wales Coast Path runs right around the Llŷn, and Brian and Jane’s shuttle service means you can walk a stretch in one direction and be collected at the end. Beyond the walking, there are National Trust gardens at Plas yn Rhiw, the heritage coast at Porthdinllaen with its beachside Tŷ Coch Inn, and the mountains of Snowdonia within easy reach for a day out. After a day on the coast, it’s a treat to come back to a quiet village, a comfortable room and a proper Welsh breakfast in the morning.
