Mumbles is the village at the far end of Swansea Bay, where the seafront runs out and the Gower begins. Norton Road sits just back from it, so the hotel is quiet but everything is walkable — and it has its own parking, which in Mumbles in August is worth a good deal.

Mumbles and the Gower

The promenade runs five miles back along Swansea Bay from the village, flat the whole way, and Mumbles Head with its lighthouse sits at the other end. One thing worth knowing before you set off: the pier is open, but the seaward half is closed and the old lifeboat station with it, so you cannot walk to the end. Past the village the Gower begins: Langland and Caswell are the first two bays, both a few minutes by road, and Three Cliffs and Rhossili are further west. Gower was the first place in Britain named an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, in 1956.
