Walking, cycling and days out in the Beacons

Few hotels in South Wales are better placed for the outdoors. The Beacons’ highest summits — Pen y Fan and Corn Du — are a short drive up the A470, with paths to suit everyone from families to serious hillwalkers. Closer still are the Taf Fawr reservoirs (Llwyn-on, Cantref and Beacons), ringed by forest trails, and the Taff Trail long-distance walking and cycling route passes nearby on its way between Cardiff and Brecon. Mountain bikers head for BikePark Wales just down the valley, while families enjoy the narrow-gauge Brecon Mountain Railway at Pontsticill and the waterfalls of “waterfall country” around Ystradfellte.
