A Grade II Listed Lodge on the Edge of Llangollen
Llantysilio Lodge is a characterful Grade II listed cottage set on the outskirts of Llangollen, the original gatehouse lodge to Llantysilio Hall. Built from local stone with steep slate gables and pretty pointed windows, it is a genuine little piece of Victorian Gothic architecture — and inside it has been carefully brought up to date for comfortable modern holidays. Sleeping five across three bedrooms, dog-friendly and set in its own enclosed garden with a children’s play area, it makes a wonderful base for a family holiday in the beautiful Dee Valley of North East Wales.
The Cottage
Arranged over two floors, Llantysilio Lodge is full of period charm. The sitting room has comfortable sofas, a 40-inch Smart TV and a remote-controlled woodburner-style stove, with windows looking out over the greenery. The kitchen and dining room is smartly fitted in deep navy, with a breakfast area, an electric oven and hob, a microwave, a fridge freezer and a dishwasher, and there is a separate utility room with a washing machine and tumble dryer. A ground-floor shower room completes the downstairs. Bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi are all included, along with the initial logs for the woodburner.
The Bedrooms
Upstairs are three bedrooms sleeping five in total. Bedroom one has a super-kingsize bed, bedroom two has two single beds, and bedroom three has a further single bed — a good layout for a family or a small group. A cot is available on request for the littlest guests. The rooms are light and comfortable, tucked under the lodge’s characterful gabled roofline.

Llangollen and the Dee Valley
Llangollen is one of the most popular little towns in North Wales, and Llantysilio Lodge is only a short way from the centre with its bars, shops, cafes and restaurants. The town sits on the River Dee in a valley recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The star attraction is the extraordinary Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, where you can walk or take a narrowboat trip high above the river along Thomas Telford’s canal. Nearby, the gentle Horseshoe Falls feed the canal, and the Llangollen Railway runs heritage steam trains up the beautiful Dee Valley from the town’s riverside station.
Things to Do
There is plenty to keep everyone busy. Llangollen is a well-known centre for outdoor activities, with white-water rafting and canoeing on the Dee, gentle canal and riverside walks, fishing, mountain biking and more. Walkers can climb to the romantic ruins of Castell Dinas Brân on its hilltop above the town, or explore the atmospheric Valle Crucis Abbey and drive the spectacular Horseshoe Pass over the moors. The town also hosts the famous International Musical Eisteddfod each summer, and the wider countryside of the Berwyn mountains and the Clwydian Range is right on the doorstep.
