A 5-Star Sea-View Cottage with Hot Tub near Aberporth

Hafan Dawel is a stunning, contemporary single-storey cottage on the beautiful Cardigan Bay coast, tucked on the edge of the little hamlet of Felinwynt midway between the National Trust’s Mwnt Beach and the village of Aberporth. Renovated to an exceptional standard in 2023, it sleeps six and is all on one level, with two sumptuous en-suite bedrooms, a bright open-plan living space and — the real showstopper — a private sunken hot tub and firepit on a terrace with unobstructed views out over the sea. Dog-friendly and finished with real style, it is a wonderful choice for a coastal escape in West Wales.

The Cottage

Everything at Hafan Dawel is designed around the view and the light. The open-plan living space has large glass patio doors that slide back onto the terrace, a sleek handleless kitchen with modern appliances, a dining bar and a comfortable seating area with a Freeview Smart TV and a stylish electric fire. The kitchen is fully equipped with an electric oven and hob, a fridge freezer, a dishwasher, a microwave and a washer/dryer, so it is easy to cook and relax. Both bedrooms have kingsize beds, their own Smart TVs and beautifully finished en-suite wet rooms with walk-in showers, and there is a double sofa bed in the living area for extra guests. Underfloor heating, bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi are all included, and a travel cot, highchair and stairgate are available for younger visitors.

Hot Tub, Firepit and Terrace

The terrace is where you will want to spend your evenings. A sunken hot tub for six sits beneath the open sky with glorious sea views, and there is a firepit and a barbecue for al fresco dining and stargazing. With a front lawned garden and sitting-out area, it is a glorious spot to watch the sun go down over Cardigan Bay. There is private parking for three cars.

Aberporth and Cardigan Bay

Hafan Dawel is beautifully placed for exploring the Ceredigion coast. Aberporth, just five minutes away by car, has two lovely sandy beaches, pubs and cafes, while the National Trust’s Mwnt — with its little whitewashed chapel and sweeping sandy cove — is one of the best spots in Wales to watch for bottlenose dolphins. The whole shoreline is followed by the Wales Coast Path, with clifftop walks, hidden coves and beaches at every turn, and the nearest beach is only about a mile from the cottage. There is even a play barn and cafe within the village, perfect for younger children.

Exploring the Area

The traditional market town of Cardigan is a short drive south, where the beautifully restored castle tells 900 years of history and the streets are full of independent shops, galleries and places to eat. Nearby you can visit the Welsh Wildlife Centre and Cilgerran Castle on the Teifi, take a boat trip to spot dolphins and seals, or head a little further into Pembrokeshire, where family attractions such as Oakwood Theme Park and Folly Farm are within about an hour’s drive. After a day out, the hot tub and sea views back at Hafan Dawel are hard to beat.
