Things to do nearby

This rural corner is wonderful walking country. The National Trust’s Porthor — the famous “Whistling Sands”, where the fine sand really does squeak underfoot — is a short drive or a good walk away, and the village beach at Aberdaron is around a mile off. From the headland at Mynydd Mawr, the views sweep across the Irish Sea and over the sound to Bardsey Island, while the Wales Coast Path links a string of hidden coves all along this shore. After a day outdoors, the woodburner and the garden are exactly what you want to come home to — and with barely any light pollution, the stars out here are spectacular. A little further afield, the National Trust’s Plas yn Rhiw, a manor with sub-tropical gardens, looks out over Hell’s Mouth, and the long surfing beach at Porth Neigwl is an easy drive.
