A Characterful 1930s House by the Sea in Porthcawl
Court House is a handsome 1930s period property in the popular seaside town of Porthcawl, on the South Wales coast. Full of original character — from Art Deco stained glass to elegant bay windows — it has been comfortably updated for family holidays, sleeping eight across four bedrooms with two separate living rooms, a woodburner and a sunny enclosed garden. Just moments from the sea and within easy reach of Porthcawl’s beaches, promenade and attractions, it is a wonderful base for a family seaside break or a get-together with friends.
The House
There is plenty of room to spread out. The main living room has comfortable sofas, a Smart TV and a woodburning stove, with pretty leaded-glass doors opening through to the dining room; a second sitting room, with a period fireplace and a large bay window, gives everyone somewhere to relax. The kitchen is well equipped with an electric oven, a gas hob, a microwave, a fridge freezer, a dishwasher and a washer/dryer, and there is a separate ground-floor toilet. Gas central heating, bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi are all included, along with the initial fuel for the woodburner, and a travel cot, highchair and two stairgates are available for younger guests.
The Bedrooms
Upstairs are four bedrooms sleeping eight. The main bedroom has a kingsize bed and lovely fitted wardrobes beneath a period bay window; there is a double room, a twin with two single beds, and a fourth bedroom with bunk beds — a great layout for families with children. A family bathroom serves them all, with a bath, a separate shower cubicle and a heated towel rail, and there is the additional downstairs cloakroom.

Porthcawl and its Beaches
Porthcawl is a lively and much-loved seaside resort with something for everyone. Golden Rest Bay, a Blue Flag beach and a favourite with surfers, is close by, while the famous Coney Beach with its funfair, the long sands of Trecco Bay and the quieter Newton Beach are all within easy reach. Stroll the seafront to the little Porthcawl Lighthouse, browse the shops, or catch a show at the grand Grand Pavilion — and if you visit in the autumn, the town’s world-famous Elvis Festival is quite a spectacle.
Exploring the Area
Beyond the town, the coastline is glorious. The towering dunes of Merthyr Mawr — among the highest in Europe and a favourite film location — and the wild beauty of Kenfig National Nature Reserve are close by, while the Glamorgan Heritage Coast around Ogmore-by-Sea and Southerndown offers dramatic cliffs and fossil-strewn beaches. Bridgend and its designer outlet are a short drive away, and both Cardiff and Swansea, with their shops, castles and museums, are within easy reach for a day out.
