Butler’s Flat is a beautifully presented first-floor apartment set within a wing of its owners’ 18th-century stately home, on the leafy eastern edge of Wrexham. It is a genuinely special place for a couple: you have your own smart, self-contained apartment, yet the run of a grand country estate on the doorstep — some 1,000 acres of parkland, farmland and gardens to wander, a full-size snooker table in the old games room, and even a tennis court by arrangement. Peaceful and private, but only a few minutes from Wrexham town and an easy drive from Chester, it is a romantic bolthole with a real sense of occasion.

Sleeping two in a king-size bedroom, it is perfectly suited to a couple’s escape, an anniversary treat or a quiet few days away.

Inside the apartment

The apartment is bright and tastefully furnished, with a comfortable sitting room centred on a fireplace, a Smart TV and lovely views over the grounds. The kitchen is well equipped for self-catering, with an oven and hob, microwave, dishwasher and washing machine, and there is a dining area for meals in. The king-size bedroom is calm and restful, and the bathroom has a bath with a shower over. WiFi and central heating are provided, and a cot is available if needed.

Just outside, guests have the use of a characterful ground-floor games room with a snooker table and a woodburning stove — a wonderful spot for a relaxed evening.

On the doorstep of Wrexham

The estate sits at Rhosnesni, on the quiet eastern side of Wrexham, so the largest town in the north-east is only a couple of miles away — handy for its shops, the Tŷ Pawb market and arts venue, and the football ground whose remarkable recent story has drawn visitors from around the world. On the town’s southern edge lies Erddig, one of the National Trust’s most-loved houses, with its walled garden and country park.

Beyond the estate walls there is plenty to fill a few days. The historic city of Chester, with its Roman walls, the Rows shopping galleries, racecourse and zoo, is a short drive to the north-east, while to the west the Clwydian Range and the Dee Valley offer excellent walking. The canals and castles around Llangollen and Chirk — including the great Pontcysyllte Aqueduct — are within comfortable reach, as are the mountains of Eryri (Snowdonia) for a bigger day out.
