Self-catering cottages on the River Dee near Bala
Bryn Melyn Farm is a collection of luxury self-catering holiday cottages set on the slopes of the beautiful Upper Dee Valley near Bala, in the heart of Eryri (Snowdonia). With five dog-friendly cottages, a wood-fired hot tub, a games room and three-quarters of a mile of private fishing on the River Dee, it makes a superb base for couples, families and groups wanting space, comfort and the lake, river and mountains right on the doorstep.
A choice of cottages
There are five cottages in all — two with one bedroom and three with two bedrooms — so there is something to suit a couple’s getaway, a family holiday or a larger group taking more than one cottage together. Each is finished to a high, comfortable standard for self-catering, giving you the freedom and privacy of your own place while enjoying the shared facilities and the wonderful valley setting around you.
Hot tub, games room and grounds
There is plenty to enjoy on site. A wood-fired hot tub (available to book) is the perfect way to unwind under the Snowdonia sky, while a games room with a pool table, table tennis and darts keeps everyone entertained on rainy days. Outside there is a barbecue area and fire pit, a tennis court (open from March to November) and thirteen acres of woodland and fields to explore, along with three-quarters of a mile of private River Dee fishing. Superfast fibre WiFi keeps you connected, and the cottages are genuinely dog-friendly.
Bala and the lake
Bala is famous for Llyn Tegid (Bala Lake), the largest natural lake in Wales and a magnet for sailing, kayaking and paddleboarding, with the narrow-gauge Bala Lake Railway running along its shore. The cottages are around ten minutes’ drive from the lake and the town, with the Bryntirion Inn gastropub just a ten-minute walk away. The National White Water Centre on the River Tryweryn, the Aran and Arenig mountains and the pretty village of Betws-y-Coed are all within reach. An active, scenic base
This is a wonderful spot for an active holiday — fishing on the doorstep, watersports on the lake, white-water rafting nearby and mountains all around — yet equally good for simply relaxing in the hot tub and enjoying the valley views. With a choice of cottages, great shared facilities and a dog-friendly welcome, Bryn Melyn Farm suits everything from a romantic break to a big family get-together.
Something for every season
Bala is a year-round destination. Summer brings watersports and walking, autumn the changing colours of the Dee valley, and the cooler months a chance to enjoy the wood-fired hot tub and games room while the mountains turn moody and dramatic. Whatever the season, the cottages make a comfortable, flexible base, with the option of booking more than one for a bigger group.
