A Riverside Stone Cottage in the Wye Valley near Monmouth

Bridge Cottage is a characterful detached stone cottage on the banks of the River Wye, deep in the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty near Monmouth. Dating from the early 19th century, sleeping up to four across two bedrooms and dog-friendly, it sits in a wonderfully peaceful riverside spot with a village pub right next door and country walks straight from the doorstep. For couples, walkers and small families looking for a proper get-away-from-it-all base in beautiful border country, it makes a lovely retreat.

Characterful, Comfortable Living

Inside, the cottage is full of character, with flagstone floors and a warm, homely feel. The open-plan living and dining room has comfortable leather sofas, a Smart TV and two woodburners — a real treat on cooler evenings — with a separate area for relaxed meals around the table. The kitchen is well equipped with a breakfast bar, an electric range cooker, a microwave, a fridge/freezer, a dishwasher and a washing machine. Oil central heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi are all included.

Two Comfortable Bedrooms

Upstairs, reached by a characterful painted staircase, there are two bedrooms: a double room with space and a folding Z-bed for added flexibility, and a second bedroom with twin beds. The bathroom has a bath, a separate cubicle shower and a toilet. The rooms are bright and freshly decorated, with leafy views over the surrounding trees.

Garden, Decking and Setting

Outside, a small, naturalistic garden leads up to a raised timber decking area with table and chairs — a lovely, secluded spot to sit out among the trees with a glass of something. There is on-road parking close by, and the cottage is no-smoking throughout; dogs are welcome. Please note this is a riverside cottage in a natural setting and is not suitable for children under five: the garden has streams, a small waterfall and a vertical rock face, the river is unfenced and around ten yards away, and the water supply is from a natural spring. Older children and adults will love the wild, riverside feel.
