A characterful stone cottage for four in Brymbo, near Wrexham

27 Green Road is a welcoming stone-built semi-detached cottage in the hillside village of Brymbo, a few miles west of Wrexham where the town gives way to the wooded valleys and old mining country of the Clywedog. Full of character inside, with exposed stone walls, beamed ceilings and a snug living room, it has been comfortably modernised for an easy self-catering break. With open countryside close by yet Wrexham only a short drive away, it makes a good-value base for a couple or a small family wanting to explore this often-overlooked corner of the north-east.

Sleeping up to four across two bedrooms, it is well suited to a family or a pair of couples looking for a homely, affordable base with a bit of Welsh character.

Inside the cottage

The heart of the cottage is an open-plan living and dining room with plenty of character — exposed stone, oak beams and a stove-effect fire make it a warm, welcoming space to relax of an evening, with a comfortable sofa, a smart TV and a solid wooden dining table for meals together. The kitchen is neatly fitted with an oven and hob, dishwasher, washing machine and microwave — everything you need for cooking in.

Upstairs are two bedrooms — a double and a twin — served by a smartly finished shower room with more of the cottage’s characterful stonework on show. WiFi and central heating are provided, and a cot is available for families travelling with a little one.

Walking country west of Wrexham

Brymbo has a fascinating industrial past — it grew up around a great ironworks and steelworks, and the Brymbo Heritage project now tells that story — but today the village sits on the edge of some genuinely lovely countryside. Within a short drive you can follow the Clywedog Valley trail through woodland at Nant Mill and Plas Power, explore the Minera lead mines and limeworks, or head up to the dramatic limestone scenery of World’s End above Llangollen. The Clwydian Range and Dee Valley are both within easy reach for a bigger day on the hills.

Wrexham town, a few miles east, has shops, the Tŷ Pawb market and arts venue, and the football ground whose recent rise has made headlines around the world, with the National Trust’s Erddig hall and gardens on its southern edge. A little further afield lie the castles and canals around Chirk and Llangollen — including the soaring Pontcysyllte Aqueduct — and the historic city of Chester with its walls, shops and zoo. It is a handy, central spot for combining Welsh countryside and history with easy days out. You will find more ideas on our Wrexham accommodation pages.
