The Empire Spa Hotel
The Empire Hotel was built in 1854 and has an impressive position in the picturesque seaside town. Wales' most stylish resort is faithful to its Victorian character, remaining unspoiled with the passing of time. It is an ideal centre for touring the awe inspiring mountains of the Snowdonia National Park, the medieval castles of North Wales and the famous Bodnant Gardens. The Hotel is beautifully furnished throughout with antiques and silk drapes.
A special feature is the prints of Sir William Russell Flint, a collection amassed over 30 years and one of the largest in private ownership. The Hotel has been owned by the Maddocks family since 1846 and a third generation has now joined the firm. Edith and Harold Maddocks 1946 (Harold D 1984) Leanard and Elizabeth Maddocks 1960 Elyse and Michael Waddy 1993.
There are seven de-luxe rooms at No 72, the Victorian Town House adjacent to the main building. In the parent hotel, there are seven suites and 44 individually styled bedrooms. All rooms have been elegantly restored and furnished with antiques, original Victorian cast iron beds, French linen and down duvets.
Every room is equipped with remote control television with satellite access and video player. There is a free tape library of over 400 films. Complimentary tea and coffee trays are provided. All bathrooms have Italian marble floors with jacuzzi baths, also a host of thoughtful extras such as dressing gowns, hairdryers and toiletries.
The award winning Watkins and Co restaurant offers a daily changing extensive table d'hote menu. The finest local produce combined with the dedicated and creative skills of son-in-law Michael Waddy fuse with the elegant surroundings, attentive and friendly service to ensure a memorable experience. The Poolside Restaurant offers informal dining and overlooks the indoor pool. Drinks can be enjoyed in the cocktail bar, which in the cooler months has a blazing log fire, or in the elegant lounge where after dinner coffee maybe taken.
The indoor heated swimming pool has a sauna, steam room and whirlpool. There is a small outdoor heated swimming pool with spa bath, sundeck and sun loungers. On the roof, there is a garden terrace with children's paddling pool. A beauty therapist/aromatherapist offers a comprehensive range of treatments including facials, massages and manicures. The Trellis Room is available for conferences and private meetings. Free parking. A lift is available at the front and rear of the Hotel.
