Staying in a Cottage in Rhos-on-Sea

Rhos-on-Sea keeps a small harbour behind its breakwater, and a promenade you can follow the whole way round to Colwyn Bay. Holiday cottages in Rhos-on-Sea suit gentle seaside walks. Bryn Euryn rises four hundred and thirty feet behind the houses, with a hillfort called Dinerth on top and a view over the bay. At low tide the mussel beds come out around Rhos Point.

More About Holiday Cottages in Rhos-on-Sea

Bryn Euryn, the hill behind the village, is a nature reserve, and the path up takes between half an hour and an hour depending on how fast you go. It is steep in places rather than long.

From the top the bay runs away below you, with the Great Orme, the big headland above Llandudno, to the west.

The hillfort on Bryn Euryn is called Dinerth, which means the fort of the bear. Whoever held it built a proper stone wall around the top, faced with good limestone blocks. It originally stood about ten feet high, with ramparts eleven and a half feet thick, and what survives today is a turf-covered bank about four feet high.

A later house sits lower down the same hill. Llys Euryn stands on the site of a thirteenth-century court, . The roofless walls you can walk round were built in the middle of the fifteenth century, with more added in the sixteenth.

Back at sea level the promenade runs a mile and a half to Colwyn Bay, flat and traffic-free, and carries the Wales Coast Path. The Rhos Fynach, the pub by the old fishing weir, is an easy walk along the front. At Porth Eirias, Môr Water Sports gives stand-up paddleboard lessons, usually from Wednesday to Saturday.

Holiday Cottages in Rhos-on-Sea — your questions answered

Is there a beach at Rhos-on-Sea?
Yes, a long one running east into Colwyn Bay, with the promenade above it. The sand shows as the tide drops and the mussel beds come out around Rhos Point.
Can you walk up Bryn Euryn?
Yes. The reserve is open all the time. The path climbs from the car park below, past a hillfort and the ruins of Llys Euryn. It is steep in places rather than long.
Is Rhos-on-Sea good for walking?
Very. The promenade is flat and traffic-free the whole way to Colwyn Bay, and the Wales Coast Path runs along it. Bryn Euryn is a proper climb of under an hour.
Is there parking at Rhos-on-Sea?
There is parking along the front and near the harbour, and a car park at the foot of Bryn Euryn for the reserve. The front fills up on a hot weekend, so come early or use the bus along the coast road.
What is there to do near Rhos-on-Sea?
Colwyn Bay is a mile and a half east along the front, with the Welsh Mountain Zoo on the hill above it, about eight minutes by car. Llandudno, the Great Orme and Llandudno Pier are ten minutes west, and Conwy Castle and Bodnant Garden are a short run inland.
How much is a week in a cottage at Rhos-on-Sea?
Most owners here price by the night rather than the week, and prices on this page start at £90 just now. Each card carries the owner’s own price, and a green badge means you can book with them and skip the agency.
Can you take a dog on the beach at Rhos-on-Sea?
Mostly, but check where you are. Along this coast marked stretches shut to dogs from May to the end of September. Rhos-on-Sea is the exception: Rhos Point and the stretch by College Avenue are closed to dogs all year round.
Are there lifeguards at Rhos-on-Sea?
No, none anywhere in Conwy county. Treat the sea as unwatched whatever the weather looks like. The nearest patrolled sand is Rhyl and Prestatyn, and only through the season.

The promenade takes you to Colwyn Bay on foot, Llandudno is ten minutes west, and Bryn Euryn is a walk of an hour or less.
