Royal Welsh Winter Fair 2026

The Royal Welsh Winter Fair takes place at the Royal Welsh Showground in Builth Wells on 30 November and 1 December 2026. Held at the same venue as the famous summer show, the Winter Fair is Wales’s premier livestock and produce event for the colder months — a two-day celebration of Welsh farming, food and rural life that has become an essential date in the agricultural calendar.

The Winter Fair centres on the livestock halls, where prize Welsh Black cattle, Texel and Welsh Mountain sheep, pigs and poultry are exhibited and judged. The Fatstock Championship is the centrepiece of the event — a showcase for the finest home-reared beef and lamb that Wales produces. There’s a strong food dimension too, with a well-stocked food hall, artisan producers, and a programme of cookery demonstrations using quality Welsh produce.

Beyond the farming content, the Winter Fair has a real Christmas market feel — festive food stalls, crafts, gifts and a warm atmosphere that makes it a popular pre-Christmas outing for families across mid Wales and beyond. The indoor halls mean it’s a comfortable event whatever the weather.

Builth Wells is well placed for a mid Wales short break combining the fair with exploring the Wye Valley and the Brecon Beacons. The town and surrounding area have a reasonable range of accommodation, though it books quickly around fair weekend — Llandrindod Wells (6 miles north) is a good alternative base.
