Get the boards out early while the wind is doing something, come back and eat, then walk the lake path in the afternoon when the beach is busy. Lessons and kit hire are easy to sort in the village.

They sit around the two beaches and the streets behind them, which is a short walk from the shops, the delis and the places to eat.

Almost everywhere else on Anglesey, a holiday cottage is a building that used to do something else — a farmhouse, a quarryman’s row, a mill. Rhosneigr is the exception: the village barely existed before the twentieth century, and what went up here went up because people wanted to come on holiday.

The two beaches are the reason. Traeth Llydan runs for over a mile, with rocky outcrops at either end and dunes behind it; the sand is a shade coarser than the sheltered beaches on the east coast, which is what happens when a beach faces the open Irish Sea. Traeth Crigyll is the other, smaller and closer to the village. Behind the dunes lies Llyn Maelog, a sixty-five-acre lake ringed by a footpath and good for birds.

The sea is clean and the figures say so: Rhosneigr's beach was graded Excellent for bathing quality in 2025, the top of the four grades. Dogs are generally welcome on these beaches year-round, unlike several on the east of the island — but check the current signs when you arrive rather than taking anyone’s word for it.

One practical thing worth knowing if you would rather not drive the whole way. Rhosneigr has its own station on the main line, and from May 2026 services along the North Wales coast increased by around half, to roughly hourly. It is one of the few villages on Anglesey where arriving by train is genuinely straightforward.
