Pentre Riding Stables B&B and Cottages Pen y Cae

Brecon Road, Pen-y-Cae, Powys, Wales, United Kingdom, SA9 1GJ

Surrounded by the breathtaking scenery of the Brecon Beacons National Park, Pentre Stables at Pen-y-Cae provides quality bed and breakfast accommodation, in a purpose-built stone building next to Pentre Farmhouse. Pentre Stables is the perfect location for anyone looking to explore the great outdoors, whether that is on foot, by bike or on horseback.

Pentre offers three B&B rooms, sleeping from 3 to 5 people. The Ground Floor rooms sleeps 3, and has disabled access, with a purpose-built en-suite and wet room. The Second Floor room sleeps up to 4, and again has an en-suite bathroom. The Top Floor is available on a B&B basis, or as a holiday let, and it can sleep up to 5 people in a family room. There is a private bathroom, and if taken as a holiday let, it has its own kitchen/dining room.

A Full English Breakfast is included at Pentre, and vegetarian, vegan and special requirement diets can be catered for. Evening meals are available nearby, with several pubs and restaurants just a short distance away. The Pen y Cae Inn was voted Welsh Gastro Pub Of The Year in 2015, and its easy to see why. The Ancient Briton pub offers a warm welcome and hearty traditional pub food, and has been a CAMRA award winner for quite a few years.

Pentre Stables is pet-friendly, and prices for pets are available on request. Horse owners will be delighted to hear that Pentre can accommodate your horse too, making it an ideal base for a riding holiday.

If you love riding, but dont have your own horse, Pentre Stables offers both pony trekking and riding lessons. Treks can be booked from 1 hour to a full days riding. From absolute beginners to accomplished riders, Pentre can offer both treks and instruction to suit all ages and experience levels.

The location of the accommodation is excellent for exploring the Brecon Beacons and the wider South Wales area. Directly opposite the Stables is Craig-y-Nos Castle, and Craig-y-Nos Country Park is just a stones throw away. Both of these sites are free to access, and are ideal for leisurely exploring on foot, straight from Pentre.

Just a few minutes from Pentre, the stunning National Showcaves of Wales at Dan-yr-Ogof are a must-see destination. With astonishing underground cave complexes, a shire horse centre, animal park and dinosaur display, the Showcaves make an excellent family day out to remember.

For walkers, a trek up the Black Mountains to see the beautiful lakes of Llyn-y-Fan Fawr and Llyn-y-Fan Fach is to be recommended. Llyn-y-Fan Fach is famous as the site of the Lady in the Lake legend. We wont spoil the story by revealing the legend, but it certainly adds a twist to a day spent at the lakes.

As you climb up to view the lakes, look out for the awesome Red Kites flying overhead. These elegant, long-winged birds of prey are now fairly common across much of Wales, and in particular around Llanddeusant, close to the Llyn-y-Fan Fawr and Llyn-y-Fan Fach lakes. Their long, forked tails make them unmistakeable in the air. If youd like to get a closer look and learn more about Red Kites, the Red Kite Feeding Station at Llanddeusant makes for an interesting visit. Feeding is at 3pm during the summer months, and at feeding times, the station is visited by more than 50 Red Kites.

Further afield, the Penderyn Distillery, near Aberdare, makes for a quirky and fascinating day out. The Visitor Centre offers distillery tours and an exhibition suite, detailing the production of whisky, the distilling process and the history of whisky in Wales. A Distillery would be nothing without a tasting area, of course, and visitors can taste the acclaimed Penderyn Single Malt, as well as gin, vodka and cream liqueurs, all produced at Penderyn.

For a unique holiday experience, a guided safari tour of the Brecon Beacons is something to consider. A number of companies offer bespoke, personally-tailored day tours of the Brecon Beacons National Park, and the extensive local knowledge of the tour guides means that youre likely to see parts of the Beacons most people miss. Whether your interest lies in wildlife spotting or landscape photography, booking a personal or a group tour will make a truly memorable day out.

Whether youre looking for a riding holiday for you and your horse, or a relaxing break immersed in the raw beauty of the Welsh landscape, Pentre Stables is the ideal base. Ride, walk, cycle in the great outdoors, or simply kick back and relax. However you spend your time at Pentre Stables, youll be assured of a warm welcome and a very comfortable stay.
