accommodation harlech

Llys Tanwg – www.llys-tanwg.co.uk self catering accommodation Harlech is a elegant seven-bedroom Edwardian house set on a cliff with one of the most majestic views in the British Isles.

From the ten-foot bay window in the living room, you see the Lleyn peninsular in the distance across Cardigan Bay, while below, four miles of sandy beach stretch out from the foot of the cliff. Beyond the beach you see the glorious Snowdonian mountains, and a mile away, the 13th century Harlech Castle.

Llys Tanwg can be rented as two separate flats (sleeping seven upstairs, and six down), or as one whole house, with a dining table upstairs seating 14. Both flats have access to large gardens, and a log cabin with table tennis, table football, pool table and other games.

Both flats are equipped to a very high standard with all mod cons, oil fired central heating, bath/power shower, two toilets, laundry facilities, TV/VHS/DVD/CD players.

Leaving the house, down a steep zigzag path, the sea can be reached in 5 minutes. It is ideal for children, with rock pools, dunes, and an enormous sandy beach. It is a great swimming beach, in our experience safe even in storms when the waves are really big.

Behind the house on foot, you are soon in the hills where there are a host of beautiful and isolated spots for walking and swimming, and the mountain range of the Rhinogs where ravens and falcons fly and herds of wild goats can still be seen. Robert Graves said of this area, “I know of no country like it”.

By car, all within an hour or less, you can find historic monuments, castles, and religious sites, visit the art village Portmeirion, ride the famous narrow-gauge Ffestiniog Steam Railway, play golf on “one of the world’s finest courses” (Bernard Gallacher - Ryder Cup Captain), go horse-riding or white-water rafting, explore huge slate caverns, go hill walking, mountain or rock climbing, mountain biking, river, lake or sea swimming, kitesurfing or windsurfing.

Of course, Snowdonia is internationally known for its fine climbing and walking, and beauty of scenery, more details of which you can find at www.go4awalk.com/snowdoniawalks.htm - there is something to suit everyone from the positively dangerous to gentle river walks.
