Our Lake Bala self catering holiday cottages provide a quiet peaceful haven from the pressures of urban life set amid the stunning scenery of North Wales and the Snowdonia National Park.
The cottages are situated in an elevated position at the head of a meadow close to the shore of Lake Bala (Llyn Tegid) and have spectacular views across the lake to the mountains of Southern Snowdonia.
The holiday cottages have been sensitively converted to retain much of the original features while providing cosy, welcoming accommodation and comfortable, modern facilities.
We offer secure parking in the rear courtyard with ample space for canoes, boats, trailers, etc.
The small market town of Bala is just over half a mile away and has facilities with a good range of restaurants, pubs, Inns, craft shops and a leisure centre.
Lake Bala is the largest natural lake in Wales and is widely recognised as an area of outstanding natural beauty and is also well renowned amongst water sports enthusiasts.
Wildlife is abundant in this part of North Wales. Red kites and buzzards are often seen and heard flying overhead, whilst badgers and foxes are frequent visitors to the adjacent meadow.
For energetic guests, not wholly content to simply unwind and soak up the surroundings, there are country walks and cycle rides from the cottage doorstep. Anyone seeking a little more action is well catered for with fishing, canoeing, climbing, sailing and white water rafting, all available in the immediate area.
Bala Lake Cottages provides an excellent touring base for exploring the many attractions of Snowdonia and the lesser known rocky coves and sandy beaches of the North Wales Coast.
Barn Owls Cottage & Lake View Cottage (two of three cottages) are part of a sensitive conversion of a stable block that once served Bryn Tegid Country House.
The cottages stand in peaceful seclusion at the top of a meadow that gradually falls away towards Bala Lake.
Access is via a private single-track lane, there is no through traffic.
Both cottages have magnificent, and ever changing, panoramic views across the waters of Bala Lake and the Berwyn Mountains.
'Lake View Cottage'
This holiday cottage is built into the hill side with an open plan sitting/dining room and kitchen on the first floor which maximises the impact of this unique location with elevated views. Also on this level is a bathroom and entrance hall that exits onto a gravelled rear courtyard that provides ample parking immediately beside the back door.
Downstairs there is a lower hallway and two bedrooms - one master double and one twin bedded room.
The front door opens onto a paved terrace with far reaching views across the meadow to the lake and the distant mountains beyond. A picnic bench & patio furniture is provided. In addition, there is a glazed cedar summer house that provides a wonderful retreat on cooler evenings.
'Barn Owls Cottage'
Barn Owls holiday cottage shares the same spectacular views and outlook from all rooms. This is a lovely cottage with plenty of old world charm and character and has a wealth of interesting period features. It has been furnished to a very high standard with and period furnishings & antiques in keeping with its style.
'Barn Owls' has a very similar internal layout to that of 'Lake View' and is also built into the hill side with open plan lounge, dining room and kitchen located on the first floor to take full advantage of the dramatic views.
On the ground floor there are two stylish double bedrooms to sleep 4. There is also a shower room, otherwise the layout is as described for 'Lake View'.
There is a secluded paved terrace with stunning lake and mountain views. Garden furniture is provided. In addition there is a cedar swing and log burning chiminea.
Facilities for both holiday cottages:
- Comfortable open plan character sitting/dining room with hard wood floor, rugs, beamed ceiling & wood burner.
- TV, video and hi-fi.
- Traditional style well equipped kitchen with electric range cooker and microwave.
- Automatic washing machine, iron & ironing board.
- Luxury bathroom with tiled floor, heated towel rail, double ended bath and over bath shower.
- Spacious double bedroom with beamed ceiling.
- Twin bedded room with beamed ceiling.
- Cot available if required.
- Bed linen and towels provided.
- Storage heaters and electricity is included in rental.
