Maelgwyn House Bed and Breakfast Harlech
Maelgwyn House Bed and Breakfast in Harlech was originally built as an Edwardian manse by the Rev David Davies in 1907 having purchased the land from the Earl of Winchilsea for £200.
Situated on a massive escarpment of Cambrian rock, known as the Harlech dome, 300ft above sea level, Maelgwyn House commands superb, sweeping views from the front bedrooms, taking in almost the entire length of the Llyn peninsular and Tremadog bay with Harlech Castle to our right and Snowdon clearly visible between the castles turrets. In the photo of Maelgwyn House is a public footpath sign situated in the foreground. This is the footpath to the beach.
Accommodation
We have recently completely refurbished the bedrooms and en-suite facilities to a very high standard with king-sized brass beds, goose and duck down duvets and pillows and top quality bed linen. Wedgewood china is used for both the dining room and the tea & coffee making facilities in each bedroom, real 5 star comfort! As Derek is a professional artist many of his original paintings and drawings can be seen in the hall, dining room and bedrooms.
Harlech
Harlech is a pretty village with some good antique shops and restaurants, one of them having won an award in the 'Best tea shop in Britain' competition! The Edwardian castle, built between 1282 and 1289, dominates Harlech village and is definitely worth a visit if you're interested in the conflict and struggle between the Welsh and the English. And if you're not interested in history the views from the battlements and towers, of Snowdonia and the surrounding countryside are breathtaking.
As Harlech is situated half-way down the western border of the Snowdonia National Park it would be hard to find a better place from which to tour, walk the Rhinogydd mountains or just relax on the 4 miles of Harlechs beautiful sandy beach.
"... the perfect stay for the keen walker. Very friendly service and hearty breakfasts." (Mr and Mrs Rudd, Wiltshire)
Maelgwyn House has been voted number one Bed and Breakfast in Harlech by our guests on 'Trip Advisor'.
