Menai Bridge Accommodation

Menai Bridge Accommodation - Isle of Anglesey

Choose your  Menai Bridge accommodation here;  Cottages, b&b, self catering apartments, bed and breakfasts, holidays and short break accommodation in the small town of Menai Bridge just off the North Wales Coast accessible by the Menai Suspension Bridge direct into the town or the Britannia road and Rail Bridge.

The first road bridge to cross the Menai Strait to the Isle of Anglesey, the Menai Suspension Bridge was built by Thomas Telford in 1826; this bridge now stands as testament to Telfords superb engineering foresight, as modern vehicles now travel across in ever increasing numbers.

It is thought that the Romans first settled here as it is the shortest crossing from the mainland. Today Menai Bridge (Porthaethwy in Welsh) would make a great holiday or short break destination and base to from which to explore the Isle of Anglesey, the north Wales coast and spectacular Snowdonia.

Menai Bridge itself offers first class tourist and holiday accommodation, the town has a selection of small independent shops a Waitrose supermarket ideal for those who prefer self catering holidays and a few local pubs selling fine Ales, wines and spirits as well as tasty bar food.

You can walk along the waterfront under the shadow of the suspension Bridge along the Belgian promenade that was built during the First World War by Belgian and Flemish refugees, to Church Island home to St Tysilio’s Church, a pretty little church built of stone with a wonderful Oak door accessed by a short causeway.

The present Church was built sometime during the fourteen hundreds although the site itself housed a church in the 7th Century founded by St Tysilio. If you visit Church Island today you will be greeted by a magnificent Yew tree as you walk through the gates, and a path that leads around the small island past the graves of local families, seafarers and a monument dedicated to the servicemen who lost their lives in the Great War of 1914-18 and the second World War 1939-45.

Further afield the small fishing villages and market towns along the coast are well worth a visit, all have a charm of their own and along with historic sites, coastal walks, beaches of golden sand, activities for all to enjoy make holiday accommodation in Menai Bridge a superb choice.
