Anglesey Attractions
Anglesey
has always been a favourite for family holidays. Children
love the freedom of a beach
but beyond the sand castles and rock pools the island has plenty
to offer.
Whatever your age there is always something
to enjoy together; from a castle to a sea zoo; from the quiet world
of exotic butterflies to a thrilling boat trip at sea - visit a
working windmill or a dark Victorian prison or a lighthouse on an island.
All these and more are waiting for you on the Isle of Anglesey.
There's your childhood to rediscover at the Museum of Childhood, furry
and feathered friends to meet at Foel Farm Park or Henblas Country
Park. Why not wander into a world of make believe at Anglesey Model
Village or wonder at the spectacular creatures that live beneath our
waters at the Anglesey Sea Zoo. For the more active, why not try a
walk with a difference, down 400 steps to the lighthouse perched at
South Stack. Visit the exhibitions and take a tour up the lighthouse.
You can also view thousands of nesting birds on
the Cliffs of South Stack from Ellin's Tower (RSPB).
[The Isle of] Anglesey
or Anglesea (Welsh: [Ynys] Môn, pronounced
as "Uh-niss Mawn", Ynys mon), is an island and
county in at the Western end of North Wales. It is separated
from the mainland by a narrow stretch of water called the Menai Strait.
It is connected to the mainland by two bridges, the original Menai
Suspension Bridge (carrying the A5), built by Thomas Telford in 1826
as a road link, and the newer, twice reconstructed Britannia Bridge,
carrying the A55 and the North Wales Coast Railway line.
